I like Sikkim very much and there's some great Shikki Gurus out there. Actually, when I was chosing a college it was either Naropa or MIU. I decided MIU was more 'normal' and I was already fucked up enough. I didn't need so many new ideas.  I needed rest. Yeah, even at fifteen. I needed rest. Being a kid in Holly. I didn't need no Allen Ginsberg hittin on me. Sorry, can't stop rapping. I just interviewed for exec chef at a jazz club. Yeah. Bring it. So I didn't go to Naropa with Trungpa and his parties. (I didn't drink, smoke or anything at MIU, I was a teetotaler). I studied the kaivalya, and it was my state.  Even when in love I was a selfish bastard. It took understanding that all is kaivalya for me to become better.

That last step I couldn't have done at Naropa back then. And I lucked out and got Nyingthig Yabshi as first empowerment later. The lama giving the whole shebang all at once. I am proud to be of the largest MIU class and grad group ever. Class of 87, yeah boi. But even then I looked across the room with love at that strange group of idealists, and it broke my heart because it was, alas, empty. MIU was a bunch of shit. Total garbage, except for the light. The light. Yah.  Geoffrey Welps said, Sit Down Kirk. Actually it was Mario Orsatticappellinilinguini. No Buddhist ever told me to sit down and shut up except Buddha.

Except when they whipped the fuck out of me in the Potala, but the story for another day. If HHDL keeps up the good shit I will follow. I got sick of the hypocracy. How they can make you pray and then kill you all in a day. You help the motherfuckin gurus create their religion then they crucify you in the next life. Man. How fucked is that?  Go figure. Luckily you TM motherfuckers got crunked up already so in the next life you won't be attached to TM. Good for you guys.

Nonsense, anyone who knows anything about Naropa knows that the initial carefree, iconoclastic spirit of freedom elaborated by great minds like Trungpa and Ginsberg, et all have been squashed into a sort of SCI package called Shamballah Training with levels and cultish titles and degrees. Maybe they still have good classes I don't know but the spirit has left the building or so I hear. Though I hear the town is very cool, just like FF.

So if you could do it over, where would you go: MIU/MUM or Naropa?

I once wanted to go to MIU so bad--now you couldn't pay me to go there. Back then you couldn't have paid me to go to Naropa--but now that I'm older and wiser <bfg> I'd love to go to Naropa. Their program in Sikkim: Wicked cool.
