Shannon Dickson read Dr. Pete's response to Tony Parson's `Divine Misconception' article, that I had uploaded, and forwarded it to Tony. Tony sent the following response to Shannon, who hasn't yet figured out how to post it here, and so asked me to. If this stimulates discussion, I'll make sure Shannon knows how to participate in it, so we'll have fewer middlemen, including me. Here it is:
In Mr. Sutphen's response to the "Divine Misconception", we have a fine example of someone who has claimed something called "personal enlightenment". Liberation is impersonal and absolutely beyond states of any kind. If Mr. Sutphen believes there is a separate individual with free will to choose to "have to use a technique that works directly with the ego" then he inevitably believes in the reality of subject and object. This is pure dualism. Equally, the article (`Divine Misconception') is not suggesting that there are "people who can do absolutely nothing" for "doing nothing" is just another doing within the hypnotic dream. Conceptual understanding is totally irrelevant to liberation.
