I have a pleasant little book called _I Am
With You Always: True Stories of Encounters
with Jesus_," by G. Scott Sparrow, Ed.D. As
the jacket blurb says, "Dr. Gregory Scott
Sparrow is a pychotherapist who has been
collecting stories of Chris encounters for
more than five years and has treaveld across
America talking about his own encounters with Jesus."

The foreward by one Morton Kelsey sets the
stage by mentioning famous historical encounters
with Jesus, such as those of Saul/Paul, Emperor
Constantine, St. Francis of Assisi, John Newton
(the slaver who wrote "Amazing Grace"), and a
couple of major religious leaders.

Most of these experiences happen in dreams.
Sparrow speculates on why that may be.

He breaks the experiences into different categories, such as Initiation,
Physical
Healing, Emotional Healing, Instruction, Confrontation and Confirmations.

It's a sweet read. From what the people interviewed relate, the stories seem to
be
much more than mere wishful thinking. But one must wonder. Jesus seems to take
on whatever form people need at the time.

I have to think these experiences are fabricated by the divine aspect of the
dreamer. For example, an old high school friend of mine told me I came to her
in a
dream to comfort and heal her. If I recall it correctly, the story goes like
this:

My fried had a very difficult pregnancy with her youngest child. One night she
went
to bed feeling she could not deal with the discomfort any longer. She fell
asleep,
and I came to her in a dream and told her everything would be all right. She
immediately felt an overwhelming peace. Upon awakening, the discomfort
returned,
but some aspect of the peace remained.

The boy was born, and turned out to be an angel. A really sweet,
easy-to-care-for
kid.

The notion that I visited her is preposterous, to say the least. But I was
flattered to
be cast in that role by my friend's subconscious.
