Except you can curse, shout and even piss on your shadow and it still stays in place mocking your efforts.  Lao Tzu says,

28. Becoming

Using the male, being female,
Being the entrance of the world,
You embrace harmony
And become as a newborn.

Using strength, being weak,
Being the root of the world,
You complete harmony
And become as unshaped wood.

Using the light, being dark,
Being the world,
You perfect harmony
And return to the Way.

Not that you care, but one must hold to the light and the dark and not destroy one or the other.  If you destroy the dark there will be only harshness. If you destroy the light there will be only blindness. Both are needed. Anyone who tells you different is polemicizing you for their own nefarious ends. The Tao is the middle way of both light and dark completely compatable. The Tao is life. One who chooses light or dark in exclusion of the other is forging the path to imbalance and death.

-Sometimes we get hung up in words. I have a friend who explained,
that it's better to think of the good and evil thing, in terms of
vibration. That the lower vibrations could be said to be just
darkness, the shadow side, and that it needn't be fought, but just as
Maharishi says, just bring in the light; or saying it another way, is
raising the vibration. Just as in group meditation, everyone helps
everyone else raise the vibration. It's all about frequency of
vibration. That is why enlightenment seems to be gradual. Because, we
cannot handle the higher vibrations at first, neither can we attempt
to understand or judge, someone who is in a higher vibration, and is
more advanced on consiousness than ourselves.
So, in this way, we needn't give any more power to the dark side by
giving it any more attention, than it already has. By staying in the
light, we keep our own vibration high, and stabilize, enlightenment,
within ourselves.
