I agree with much of what you are saying. However with regard to the practice of TM, I have found it to be simple, practical and effective with regard to my dynamic western lifestyle.
Without peer, really, given that I can do it 20 mins. 2x a day, anywhere, period, and that it is highly effective in clearing away stress in a comfortable way. Which by the way I can't say about TM- Sidhis which is why I no longer do them; they take way too long, and space me out too much to be practical.
