Videha is described various ways. In reference to videha it is being 
bodiless while still maintaining a body. Some say you retain mahat, 
ahamkara and mind as videhas--yet others say that videhas only maintain 
the linga (i.e. the mahat). If there is any controversy over videha 
IMO, that is the only relevant one (not whether it occurs before or 
after death).

As I said the recent trans. by Shearer, which someone here stated M. 
was recommending as 'the one to use', states that this is one of the 
terms for unity c. (videha-mukti).

My understanding is that Videha is a process and should not be thought 
of as a singular event. While bodily dissolution could be the end 
result, it is not necessarily the desired result ;-).

I was taught that there were nine levels to this.
