The cult thang is a good method of "tempering," in 
the sense of a sword being put in the fire and then
plunged into cold water.  As Neitsczhe said, "That
which does not actually kill you makes you stronger."

I pondered the C word once in a story.  It was in
the context of studying with a spiritual teacher
whom most considered a cult leader.  And while I 
could actually *agree* with that assessment on
many levels, the subjective payoff for sticking
around and learning what I could in an odd but
stimulating environment was worth it.  Until it
wasn't, and then I split.  Anyway, for any who
