This was a quote from a post by anti-TMer John Knapp (of Trancenet) from way back in September 1996. Among other things, Knapp specializes in starting rumors that have no basis. In the same post, he claimed he had heard that MMY had put the MUM campus up for sale. Back in June of that year, he'd sent out a hysterical series of "press releases" to various newsgroups claiming that MMY was creating potential Jonestowns all over the world, sending TMers to isolated outposts in the jungle to await the apocalypse, and asking everyone who read them to call their congresscritter and the media so mass suicides of TMers could be averted (see "Knapp's 'TM Crisis'--The Real Story" in the Files section in the "TMO--The Odd Side" folder). At one point, he suggested that MMY had died and that the TMO was covering it up. The point was to upset TMers who didn't have enough contact with the movement to realize how idiotic these claims were. Really just high-level trolling.
