You also have people like David Frawley who says that a lot of people mistake a vata imbalance (spaciness) for a spiritual experience. Then sometimes I question if meditation is nothing more than a non-drug high that can stick with it you. Or does it "re-wire" us just to make the experience seem more permanent? Definitely there seems to be practical benefits to meditation especially if it helps you get your act more together but in many cases it can do the opposite. :)
New Age I always found to be a mish-mash of all kinds of things some that might have some value and much that does not. Much of it is just tripping around the edge of more established spiritual practices. I have friends who are of this ilk and don't like to commit themselves to any deeper spiritual practice so they always have "their new age practice of the month." :)
