My guess is that you didn't pick up on the smugness or elitism
because you are likely also immersed in the same religious culture of
"techniquianity" in which spirituality is defined by the ability to
cultivate and perform subtle mind-body parlor tricks.

From my own experience, blowing spooge, not blowing spooge, eating
meat, not eating meat, etc. has zero effect on witness of the
unchanging conscious nature. Personally, I'm becoming more and more
convinced that awakening is profound, yet utterly mundane and in no
need of being gussied up with all sorts of highfalutin techniques,
dogmas, and subtle phenomena.

----Exactly. We think that the God realm of perception abides by the earthly notions of rise and fall, when that realm actually has its own rules. Once admitted there is no rise and fall, and so those small egoic notions also cease.
 
In fact when one is engaged in an activity which they completely enjoy the mind tends to be nonconceptually engaged which makes such higher states of awareness blossom. Hence tantra.
