the jet vapor or contrail is a byproduct of a high compression, high 
bypass engine processing the naturally existing water vapor in the 
atmosphere. The water vapor is highly compressed by the engine and 
released as a contrail made of ice particles. If there is little water 
vapor in the atmosphere, there will not be a contrail.
