So, is anyone else watching Season Four? The pilot just knocked the ball out of the park, in my opinion. Strong, clever writing, surprises and new plot twists out the ying-yang, and great performances by all of the actors, who are in their last season as these characters and seem dedicated to going out with a roar, not a jumped-the-shark whimper.
For the spiritually inclined, if you don't know the new Battlestar Galactica, you should. Remem- ber the old one, back in the late 70s? Got that image? Now forget it. Throw it on the trash heap. That's what the developers of the new Battlestar Galactica did. Instead of hokey space opera they created Myth In Space. Heavy-duty myth. You've got yer gods, yer religions, yer Cylons who look like humans and yer humans who merely think they're humans. You've got yer heroes and you've got yer villains, and they keep swapping places. You've got a quest in which the few survivors of the human race are searching for their home planet, which is called Earth, but which probably never really existed and may be mere myth. You've got yer seers, whose visions lead these lost-in-space seekers across the universe. And even, *finally* in this season, you've got yer sprinklings of humor, as if the survival of the human race and the quest for a place to call home were not quite as serious as some take them to be. You've got yer great television. We're talking serious Emmy and Golden Globe potential here. So far it looks as if Katee Sackhoff may walk away with the Best Actress awards. May her character Starbuck on the good ship Galactica find a better end than her namesake aboard the good ship Pequod.
