One shouldn't underestimate what the US government can do to organizations it deems "suspicious". Why do you suppose MMY could not stay in the USA, particularly in Fairfield? IMO, the IRS was probably trying to 'get' him for tax evasion based on income earned by TMOs. That's why MMY decided to leave the US and reside in the Netherlands. It was also because Robin Carlson had served him with a subpoena and Lenny Goldman had to fend off the sheriff sent to deliver it.
