There are all different forms of experiential or
cathartic work. They are effective if the attention is
primarily on the bodily experience and not in the
mind. The mind tends to obsess and replay an event
over and over and it never comes to a resolution
because it is seeking a cognitive resolution and there
is none. The resolution is just letting the experience
occur in the body and relaxing into it. The one thing
you have to careful with is trauma. You can't just let
go into the bodily experience of trauma because you
will re-traumatize the person. You have to take little
bits of experience at a time and allow them to carry
themselves to conclusion.
