>From a friend who lives in Las Vegas: It's all in black, can't read it.(scroll down) But, if you're referring to Major Goodman, I think he should be blaming the casinos for being so greedy. Their machines are so tight, they squeak, economy is bad, people are not wasting their money gambling. Especially, when they don't have a chance in hell of winning anything. The local casinos are almost empty, the Strip is still getting a steady stream of people from California. but again, the Casinos "greed" has chased them away, not anything Obama said. I agree with Obama, these big companies spend their bailout money in Vegas? Unemployment rate is very high, we are one of the highest in foreclosures (Banks greed), they sucked average people into adjustable rates, payments went from $1000 a month to $3000 a month. We sold a rental house 3 years ago, bought it for 105,000, sold it for 205. It's still worth about 150,000, but both husband and wife lost their jobs, foreclosure, they want 80,000 for it. Well below the market value. the people put minimum down, got a ARM mortgage and got screwed. Mayor Goodman is a democrat, our gov. gibbons is the biggest republican jerk, has about a 5% approval rating, his budget is cutting the city employees' salaries, including teachers. We're losing teachers, classrooms will have 50 to 60 in a room. My husband subs and has had PE classes with 60 kids. Kids don't learn, and there are too many to control. Some schools don't even have dictionaries. But, Gibbons is making his cuts there, because he's in the pocket of the Casinos, won't raise the casino taxes. [The Las Vegas Sun] Vegas, Baby! Let's Go! Gibbons criticizes Obama over denied meeting request By <http://www.lasvegassun.com/staff/sun-staff/> Sun Staff ( <http://www.lasvegassun.com/staff/sun-staff/contact/> contact) Mon, May 18, 2009 (2:02 p.m.) Gov. Jim Gibbons said today that President Obama has denied his request to meet with him in Las Vegas later this month. The governor had sent the president a letter last month saying he wanted to discuss the economic difficulties facing the state's tourism industry. Gibbons said today that he was notified Obama won't meet with him while the president is in Las Vegas on May 26 for a fundraiser for Sen. Harry Reid. "I am disappointed at the hypocrisy shown by this administration," Gibbons said in a <http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2009/may/18/news-release-issued-monday-gov- jim-gibbons-obama/> prepared statement. "President Obama is coming to Las Vegas later this month for a political fundraiser, but he will not help the struggling families in Las Vegas and Nevada who are out of work because of his reckless comments." Gibbons is referring to comments Obama made earlier this year regarding business trips to Las Vegas by companies receiving federal bailout money. Earlier this year, the President told an audience in Elkhart, Indiana, "You can't get corporate jets. You can't go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer's dime." That quote was seen by many as an insult to Las Vegas and as a message to companies across the Nation to stay away from Las Vegas for corporate meetings and conventions. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reports over 400 conventions and business meetings scheduled to take place in Las Vegas recently have cancelled. These cancelled events translate into 111,800 guests in Las Vegas and over 250,000 "room-nights". The cancelled conventions and meetings have cost the Las Vegas economy over $100-million, not including gaming revenue. "This is politics, pure and simple, President Obama stood for change, but all he has done is brought negative economic change to Nevada," Gibbons said.
