Here's a fascinating photo that appeared in Le Figaro a while back. The time-lapse shot manages to capture a lot of the dynamics of it all:
http://www.members.aol.com/tantricone/share/TheEyeOfTheStorm.htm Being somewhat of a medievalist, I definitely see what is going on in the world as a religious war, the revival of and perpetuation of a conflict that began with the Crusades. The Crusades were about Christian countries trying to forcibly take some- thing they valued (Jerusalem) from the people who owned it. Everything else was hooey...it was all about theft of resources. The only thing that's changed in the New Crusade is the resource in question. Christianity got its butt kicked in the Crusades, and has portrayed -- and treated -- Muslims as the niggers of the world ever since. They're tired of it. It will be interesting to see how it turns out this time, after Fundie Christian America realizes that it can't win in Iraq and bails out. The last time Christianity got its ass whupped by the Muslims, it invented the Inquisition and used it to persecute its own for 600 years. I'm betting that history repeats itself.
