I was thinking...
Maharishi, does most things, symbolically...lasting through time; his essence message has not changed through the years, basically he has been saying the same thing, over and over, and just bringing out more knowledge through the years, but the message has remained the same: Spiritual Regeneration of the World.
Knowing that as an Icon of the sixties, (Beatles, Stones, JFK), and of our generation, he (Maharishi) acts as though he is being recorded and can see through time, from beginning to end.
All of the paraphernalia, of the movement, has been to glorify human exisitence. Even the whole Raja trippy stuff, and the Palace's and so on, are to raise the dignity of human existence to the level of being royal. This contrasts greatly with the "Mass Consciousness" notion, that humans are quite expendable, and of little significance (a notion of ego, and in it's worse manifestations: the basis of evil itself: to make humans look quite stupid, instead of Divine).
Maharishi seeks to make man (and woman) Divine; same as Jesus, same as Buddha, Divine-and "In Tune w/All the Laws of Nature (Oneness w/The All).
Even this symbolic gesture of awarding Raja Ram w/Weight in Gold is symbolic, in that this Raja, working w/Maharishi, recognized that the human physiology is Divine (And we are all worth our weight in gold, symbolically).
That's my present take on the gold thing...Plus gold is one of the best conductor's of electricity, and magnetism (?) so, I would assume that wearing gold on the crown, in itself, would have the effect of raising awareness (if only symbolically)...
