I find myself asking it about the old things, too. TM, for example. For all TM's "rah rah rah, we're the supersonic jet plane to enlightenment" spiel, how many have actually awakened as a result of practicing TM? From what I gather, it's a rarefied few. > The fact that people are > awakening by whatever means has caused me to lose > patience for "life will be great at some future date" > ideologies. To borrow from Irmeli's most excellent post, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FairfieldLife/message/64183 those ideologies are the embodiment of "non-acceptance of what is." Been there, done that. In fact, it was a full year into my time with Waking Down before I realized I had been looking to it as yet another "fix what's broken so "life will be great at some future date"". What followed was several weeks of deep depression and anguish, as I came to grips with the reality that I am what I am, and there is no magic pill. That turned out to be the birth canal to acceptance of what is. The 30 year battle with myself just stopped dead in its tracks. > For example, a friend is studying the Course in > Miracles with Robert Perry, a respected teacher of > that program. I see spiritual dogmas of any kind as having the ability to give hope and comfort in band-aid fashion, but they can't provide real freedom.
