Or, you could just use the fourth button from the left in the Rich Text Editor toolbar, highlight the URL, and then paste the same URL into the resulting popup. This is a fairly standard feature of Rich Text editors, which figure that people wouldn't be using them if they weren't capable of deciding for themselves what should be a link and what should not.
You can even highlight other text like the words Click Here <http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-14417362> and turn it into a link.
