Disillusioned with what, exactly? John's marriage was already breaking up long before India, and he was about to start a whole new life with someone else. Rick, isn't maybe this a case of taking one small sentence~~out of perhaps thousands George was quoted as saying during this time~~and looking, *really looking,* for hidden meanings and/or convergences? Of course, you could be right. Just because after all the ink that's been spilled in many, many publications debating this I haven't seen it before doesn't make it impossible.
