I can understand this ^ statement coming from an Ordinary Joe, but it seems to me that the point of most meditation practices is get the meditator to know consciousness itself without having to shine that consciousness on a thought or perception. I'm asking the question of this group because I would expect everyone here to say "Duh! Of course consciousness can know itself." If that's not the response, I've got some reconsidering to do.
