Just want to add something that might have relevance in this
discussion. It's been in my mind lately. Specifically, a few years
ago Bill Moyers was interviewing a philospher by the name of Campbell
about the concept of hell and the devil.

Growing up as a Baptist, Moyers mentioned that a Christian theologian
once stated that the Devil is in hell because he 'loved' the Creator.
Being in hell, his only satisfaction is in recalling the memory of the
Creator and the bliss of heavenly paradise.

In my own opinion, being once a powerful Archangel himself, Lucifer and
his allies decided to rebel against the Creator and his angels knowing
full well that they were going to lose the battle. In effect, they
chose to go to hell because it was an available option in the heavenly
realm. It was the only option where they can have a certain degree of
authority that is independent and apposed to the Creator's.
