Interestingly, the last time he told this story over on alt.m.t, he said he'd read it in a Playboy interview with Reynolds. It does sound like something Reynolds might say, except in fact in the Cosmo spread it isn't his hands covering his privates; it's part of his arm and the way his legs are positioned. Which makes me think it may have been a talk show after all, and the gag was written for him. As far as I'm concerned, Burt Reynolds never needed to do another thing to justify his existence after the Cosmo spread.
