I don't know who the other person was (I suspect it was the anonymous female who cussed me out), but Cliff is some kind of anomaly, a person with a distinct problem. I don't think he's a sexist, I think he simply can't deal with being challenged. I think he's used to putting people down and having them stay down. My being a woman may have exacerbated his reaction, but I seriously doubt that was the primary factor; nor do I think sexism, at least in the usual definition of the term, has anything to do with anybody else's objections, or with my conflict with Barry (I don't think gender is involved in my conflict with Barry, here or on alt.m.t, at all). I think the reactions of others here are more subtle than garden-variety sexism, and I think it's the same subtlety that is fueling the strip-club discussion. Interestingly, it appears to have been *my* comment that strip clubs exploited women that started that whole discussion, which I've pretty much stayed out of because I have such problems articulating my views on it. I *do* think it has something to do with expectations of female behavior. Given that the level of personal insult and attack in Barry's posts directed at me is at least as great as those in mine directed at him, there has to be *some* reason why folks have tended to come down on me rather than him, and I simply can't think of any other explanation than that I *stand out*, I'm unusual, compared to how women typically behave here. ------------------------ Yahoo!
