Ann, I see what you mean. But what if wearing your seat belt also protects passengers in your car. IOW, you're still behind the steering wheel and maybe steering.
There's a very visceral scene in the Meryl Streep movie Adaptation. A car is going pretty slowly and suddenly collides and a body goes flying out through the windshield. Very motivating with regards to using seat belts, to say the least! Concussions are a big deal now and virtually everyone wears a helmet for most sports and so they should. Damaging your brain in the service of entertainment is hardly worth it.
