I like it that human beings have imaginations and have a desire for
unusual and mysterious entities, creatures and events to exist and to
happen.
You call this rubbish imagination? My dog could work out what's going
on in 99% of youtube UFO vids. Nabby needs our help, not our
patronising homilies.
I've been reading about UFO's for decades, it used my favourite
subject and it used to be actually interesting - there used to be
great minds with great ideas telling great stories. Proper folklore in
action and a fascinating glimpse into evolving beliefs. Hell, some of
it might even be true!
Nowadays all you get is a few fuzzy videos of planes in the distance
on youtube that terminal teenagers desperately want to be true so they
can pretend their favourite Transformers movie is coming true.
This is a good thing. It means we still have aspects of young children
in us that want to be amazed and surprised.
So why does it all feel so depressing and stunted? Compared to the UFO
conferences I used to go to the internet serves up some very thin
gruel indeed.
I think scientists are sometimes like the spoilers of the party - the
curmudgeons that can't stand the idea that anyone is excited about or
hoping for the existence of something you can't measure or quantify.
Boo hoo, lets all go wet the bed in out dream worlds.

Young people seem to be able to keep their positive attitude even in the
face of adversity and change - old people not so much. It can be
depressing when people find out that there are no UFOs and human
levitation is impossible. Often this kind of depression leads to posting
negative replies to just about everything. Go figure.
