Different people describe similar or almost similar inner states by
quite different words. A permanent shift in my awareness happened,
when I was 16.
I have never called it enlightenment. At 16 and for many years after
it I hadn't even heard of the eastern enlightenment concept.
I have a feeling that the awareness that dr. Pete is trying to
describe here is rather similar to that stage of awareness through
which this instrument started permanently to operate with after that
shift.
Only I describe it somewhat differently. My description is less sexy,
and there is an "I".

Here is the description: The identification of the "I" to an image or
idea of oneself stopped. After that there was no "I" to look at any
more. But an "I" as a witness, also as someone who is aware and
learning, continued to exist, even more than before. Also there was
much less identification with thoughts and emotions. Thoughts and
emotions were there as before, but they couldn't anymore disturb you.
The "I" just witnesses their dance and play while it is anchored in
the infinity.
This capacity to witness and be in a non-judgemental way aware of
one's thoughts and emotions enhances a lot one's capacity to transform
and heal oneself.
