One of the main reason why we cannot find any ETs is because of space-time. Even if we detected signals from ETs, the source of the signals would probably not exist by the time of the first contact.
Any signals that humans on earth could detect would be signals that originated billions of years ago and billions of light yeas away. We don't see things that are happening in real-time. Almost everything we perceive is in the past - even a single thought is a few nano-seconds old. If we could detect life on other planets in the distant universe, if would probably not exist at present. Even if you think of an intelligent agent or agents out there, a life-form probably wouldn't exist after a few trillion or billion years, or even a few millions of years.
