I think its because Doug actually believes yagyas work.

I suspect as much too but there's no harm in trying to get people thinking
about it. Loads of religious groups believe in the power of prayer but how many
make a point of charging large sums of money for it? Most do it as a charitable
effect because they believe in it.

Getting a yagya is almost a reflex action in the TMO now. I know someone who
got one for her elderly cat when it was ill. They'll take anyone's money for
anything it seems. And given the amount of yagya's required by all the many
national programme's and then all the extra ones people buy to help them get a
job/wife/life/health etc I wonder whether they actually get done at all, there
aren't that many pundits are there? Now that would be a fraud but a clever move
on behalf of the TMO. Truly money for nothing.

I also know people who think the TM ones are too expensive and order cheaper
ones off supposed pundits on the internet. They always ask me not to tell
anyone in case the movement finds out but I wonder if some bright sparks have
found a way to line their pockets for doing nothing. I sometimes wish I had
some criminal inclination, I could make a fortune but I'm too honest.

Actually I'm happy that I'm too honest, who would want wealth when it's been
separated from people who don't know any better?

It was apparently the suggestion that MIU/MUM has gotten its accreditation by
bribery with cash and whores that outraged our Dome Centric friend here on FFL.
Of course that was satire, but were it to turn out to be fact in part or in
whole I would not be surprised.

Actually that would surprise me but I got the humorous intention behind it.
Especially as it was adapted wholesale from the bit that "Buck" posted.

It's funny how Doug can get upset about an obvious joke like that but not get
upset about the news that the national yagya program (cash for completely
ineffectual prayers) costs people he probably knows millions every year. The
fact that the supposedly scientific MUM hasn't even attempted to validate such
an impressive cash cow surprises me. They try and prove that other supernatural
powers exist but here's an obvious one that would elevate their standing in the
world of science immeasurably. Proving the efficacy of prayer! They'd be
legends overnight and people would flock to the movement and bring about the
golden age in a heartbeat..

I suspect that there's a reason they haven't attempted to validate this and
that is that even they know it's a load of deluded crap. That's people you know
Doug, getting conned. Doesn't that rile you at all? It does me.

Other parts of my post were also intended as humor but are fact such as
calling the Movement a neo-Hindu cult, which it is.

Wrong Buck, I said I sometimes miss satire, but I got this one. If you do it
right anyone can be put on. Sometimes I get it, and sometimes I do not. The
difference in MJ's comments that he truly believes are right and satire is a
subtle one but to detect the difference you cannot be so locked into refuting
or suppressing comments that you disagree with. This is called identification
with thought, which is the main reason people are in ignorance. When in
ignorance you think what you think is true. That is, you think an opinion about
something is true or false even when that opinion is totally frivolous. Even
well-substantiated, 'informed opinions' can be wrong. Spiritual books and
movements are riddled with idiotic ideas. Scientists come up with idiotic
ideas, but they are always trying to prove them wrong, only the best ideas
survive in science. Wisdom is learning to sort them out. Spiritual groups tend
to avoid finding out if their idiotic ideas are wrong. It is a basic
psychological tendency we have that has to be retrained to moderate our
gullibility.

Dear MJ; No, yours appearing here was a flat out slur and you are diving for
cover now trying to say it was satire. Even Anartaxius with his enormous
intellectual power here is saying he missed it entirely as satire. What you
dropped as a rhetorical IED here does not even come close to satire.
Unqualified as you dropped it in here on a Yahoo-groups its effect quite
evidently is to damage in slur MUM and those associated with it. ..A Slur: an
insinuation or allegation about someone that is likely to insult them or damage
their reputation.

I doubt that, MJ. You are calling in to question the integrity of the whole of
the accreditation system by saying that. Your assertion likely is just one of
those folk stories that people will tell and repeat. Rather, your response here
without any qualification seems just a slur. Who offered the bribe and who took
it and did anything with it? It very likely would be criminal if it happened.
Which accreditation team was it? Which year?

The curriculum offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in the arts,
sciences, humanities, and business, but also integrates unproven and highly
questionable mind altering practices. All students, faculty, and staff practice
the Transcendental Meditation® technique, which turns a person into a brain
dead bliss ninny, debilitates their health to the point that we can sell them
yagyas and various and sundry nostrums, and enhances their ability to believe
damn near anything we tell them.

Other innovations include taking one course for 3-1/2 weeks with a three-day
break between each course which is a classic mind control technique as it
allows us to control the flow of information, and organic high carb, low
protein vegetarian meals to weaken their systems, making them more susceptible
to mind control. Visitors Weekends are held throughout the year. Come on down
and join a neo-Hindu cult!
