I give people a lot of leeway in what they choose to believe, without me having to judge them as one thing or another. Yes, this is a pretty balanced-minded way to view the rest of the population of the world which, frankly, is going to differ in one way or another in what they believe from whatever you believe. How could we possibly hope to change or effect or control other people let alone continually get bent out of shape about it? No, impossible and mostly a waste of time and energy. But some on FFL prefer to stereotype others here and by doing so either jump to conclusions or fail to see the nuances of how individuals come to where they are in their beliefs. Lumping someone into some category is lazy thinking and many have been wantonly misrepresented here in order to create dissonance. What? We don't have enough dissonance in the world already? Huh? There isn't enough bloodshed, unhappiness and injustice in the real world for you that certain members needed/need to manufacture it here? Incredible. It seems to me that Doug has found a "seam" of gold amidst the coal that he chooses to mine, so to speak. How, or what, people are able to reconcile is their business. And against all odds, I find him the moderator of the group, and you take away the extremes on both ends of the spectrum (as has happened) and I'm pleased with the results. I hope the moderating will continue along the lines it has been going. At the risk of you accusing me of pandering, I find it difficult to watch John Hagelin discuss anything. Actually, I am okay with some of his theories, (I don't pay much attention to them), but rather it is the presentation that makes me cringe. Cognitive dissonance is real and affects groups that have a strong "world saving" focus, when it all goes wrong and turns out to be nonsense they just carry on like everything is fine.
