Good questions. When a team of TMing and non-TMing scientists 
attempted to impart 3 different meditation techniques to a randomly 
selected group of elderly residents of rest homes, the findings were 
that the attempt instill the same level of expectation for all three 
techniques had suceeded but that what the researchers were calling 
Benson's RElaxation Response had the least effect of the three 
techniques, while TM had the most effect on most measures.

Benson's response: it wasn't really the relaxation response that was 
taught even though the researcher in charge of training the RR 
teachers had been a proponent of the technique.
