I was always uncomfortable using the phrase 
"sold out" to mean "committed." 

"Susan is sold out to the movement" was a 
positive assessment of Susan's attitude, whereas 
in normal speech, "to sell out" means one has 
abandoned one's values. 

Freudian, no?
