The operative phrase, of course, being "more often

Moreover, liking "Velvet Elvis" paintings doesn't

Individual tastes may take odd detours, but there's
a substantial body of work about which there is an
enduring consensus (although it sometimes takes
quite a while to form).

Wonderful point and good illustration. This kind of art often refereed
to as kitsch, or, in some cases folk art, has value. ItÕs in fact
drawn much critical attention over the past several decades.

There is a danger in judging all things considered art from a single
model. Most of us subjected to a western style education are raised
under the visual framework of High Renaissance. As such we tend to
unconsciously judge things based predominately on faithful mimesis and
unchallenged perceptual habits. Much recent art, beginning say in the
late 1950Õs, deals primarily with the construction of meaning. For
example, the point raised here a few days back suggesting that the
viewer "becomes what they experience" may or may not be true. What
youÕd consider critical from a contemporary art perspective is
highlighting the interpretive forces involved in determining what is
that youÕve become as a result of this experience.
