ECT is great fun. They hook you up to a version of the electric chair and send 
a large, but 
non-fatal, current into your brain. This creates huge amounts of endorphins and 
often 
jerks someone right out of their depression. It doesn't work as well the 
second, third, 
fourth, fifth, etc., time around, however, and isn't exactly fun to go through, 
so its a "last 
resort" process as you say. My uncle went through it for a while.
