I recall hearing on a course back in the early 70s' that his name did not include "BAL" - it was just Bramachari Mahesh. We speculated if that meant that he had had sexual relations before devoting himself to Guru Dev. Others know more than I about this, but I think Bal means lifelong, so if you have ever had sex, you cannot use the term Bal in front of your name.
