Well, the lateswt research suggests that there IS a fundamental difference 
between TC and 
experience in the usual sense. Almost ALL  experiences, whether internal or raw 
sensory 
data, pass through the thalamus on the way to the rest of the brain for 
processing. If you 
reduce the activity of the thalamus, this changes things. Apparently, below a 
threshold of 
activity, we don't perceive internal/external experience at all.
