Er... The Lord of the Rings triology was filmed entirely in New Zeland, using 
New Zeland 
companies for FX and costumes and so on, by a New Zeland director. ALL the 
20,000+ extras 
were New Zelanders, and the main cast was an international ensemble from all 
over.

And as far as I know, gross world ticket sales includes sales in every country, 
not just the 
USA.
