One thing people don't understand is that the MUM faculty usually don't invite outside researchers to study something until they're damned certain that there will be positive results when they do the study. The pain research is a notable exception. The TMO has never claimed anything about pain and TM as far as I know, so there's no risk of losing a marketing claim by doing the study. Another exception was the initial study comparing TM and other relaxation techniques done on elderly residents of rest homes. That was a big risk, but it paid off.
