There is some truth to this explaination. You get a bija mantra
with TM to start with and then may be build a more complete vedic
mantra or full dharani mantra with the TM advanced techniques as you
get them. Kind of expensive by the time you get the full balance if
you get them.

We have run in to TM mother divine who have had much mental and
physical trouble from being on MD. Common maladies evidently on the
MD program. Mental problems and bad health. Energetic entity
possession too in the experiences.

They do not have a way of talking about it within MD for fear of
ejection/rejection so some MD can be in pretty bad shape, but are
told the only way to get enlightened is to be on the program in MD.
There is a lot of peer pressure there between the 'devotion' of
being accepted there and when your days are split mostly between
meditating and raising money.

The Saraswati Mantra by contrast,

Different from just TM,
Yes, i have had good experience with using the Saraswati Mantra ala
TM practice. Go to a Karunamayi public meeting and she often chants
it call-and-response thus teaching it and initiating in the course
of things. Her CD's of the key Vedic mantras are very useful to
just have playing or to use to learn the mantras to use to meditate
with. On her tours she holds meditation retreats. They are
wonderful opportunities to sit, meditate and clarify things with a
saint.

I particularly like doing meditations with about one third of time
with Saraswati Mantra, one third with Gayatri Mantra and one third
with Mytrianjaya Mantra. Extremely powerful doing this for an hour
and more. Saraswati quiets the mind. Gayatri cleans the subtle
energy systems of the body-mind complex and Mrytanjaya reveals the
large soul through the mortal system. These are within the
vibratory nature of the mantras. They work that way and they seem
very good and effective in my experience. The TM is a good
foundational technique but a baby meditation. So it is.
