TorquiseB writes sinpped:
Have you ever dealt with a long-term cocaine addict?
Same behavior. The first reaction to a suggestion
from a friend as to how to seek help is 1) denial
that he *needs* help, 2) anger at the person who
suggested it, 3) a compulsion to badrap the person
who has made the suggestion to others, to cast
them as the person who needs help, and 4) a rush
behind closed doors back to the cocaine baggie.

Tom T:
I have a wonderful daily cartoon strip from Calvin and Hobbes where
the school teacher that Calvin often sees as a Tyranasourus Rex asks
Calvin in the History lesson, Calvin, "What state do you live in?" To
which Calvin in the next panel glibbly replies, "Denial". In another
Calvin and Hobbes are discussing the serenity prayer from 12 step
where Calvin turns the prayer totally around backward to serve his
addictive nature and Hobbes questions him about the veracity of how
Calvin has expessed it and Calvin responds that it works better for
him that way. In a third strip Calvin tells Hobbbes "I say a day
without denial is a day you've got to face". Second panel, Calvin,
"From now on. I'm not going to think about anything that's
unpleasant." Hobbes,"Isn't that a pretty self deceiving way to go
through life?" Calvin looks dumbfounded and then walks away and says,
"I'm not going to think about that." Humor sometimes makes the point
that logic can't. Tom T
