No "proof," but most scholars accept that there was a person called Jesus who stirred things up back then (although some disagree). Whether he was who he is said to have been is an entirely different question, of course. Not sure what you think I was "spoofing." St. Paul wrote 40 or so years after Jesus would have been put to death and never met Jesus in the flesh; and the Gospels say nothing about Substitutionary Atonement. That formula appears to have been original with Paul.
