They don't even both have to be on file with the credit card company. As I pointed out, if that were the case, you wouldn't be able to purchase, for example, gifts at Christmas for your family and friends who live at a distance from you. *Expensive* items shipped to a different address could be a problem, but it would simply involve verifying that the credit card is in fact yours.
