Well, i guess I was one of the last to hear the new album then... got it
through the post today, and have just finished listening to it all the
way through. I bought it from http://www.cd-wow.com/ 'cos I decided that
in my current situation, getting it cheaply was more important than
getting it quickly- mind you, getting it only three days after release
is pretty good.
Very first impressions are that I'm quite disappointed. I've already
read what other people ave said about the tracks, but that didn't
prepare me as well as expected.
"We Come 1" is too cheesy. Several of the tracks, including "Muhammad
Ali", sound a bit too contrived- slick, but by no means outstanding.
"One Step Too Far" is good, but it's not Dido's best-ever-vocal-
performance. "Evergreen" shows that the new singer Zoe's voice is good,
but I'm not blown away by it. "Liontamer" is one of the strongest tracks
on the album, from first listen- it's one of the few that really gels
together.
In fact, despite the criticisms already voiced here, I think it's tracks
like "Machines R Us" and "Code" that actually stand up. And I still
think there's a really odd out-of-sync beat thing going on in "We Come
1" and also in a couple of the other tracks.
So my first impressions are pretty poor- Rollo and Sister Bliss used to
be an 'item', but now they've split and are just good friends; and I
think musically, they used to be an item and now sound like just good
friends too.
Sorry- disappointed.
Stuart.
