Not only do I find light text/dark background hard to read, it gives me a splitting headache. However, I've gotten around this problem (and the problem of folks who use busy backgrounds on pages we're supposed to be able to read!) by turning colors and pictures off in my browser. If I want to see a picture, I'll double-click on its placeholder to load it. Thus I get black text on a white background... as it should be.
