Thanks for the feedback guys.

I totally reinstalled MySQL (nothing working yet, so no issue with
that). Also reloaded 4-0-6 from Subversion Tag. Rebooted everything
that would reboot.

Ran Installer, which got a little further this time, but then started
spitting out errors the same as reported in "FC4.0.6 $ MySQL 5.0.45"
by Oguz Demirkapi on Aug 03.

I'm wondering if this may have something to do with the JDBC-MYSQL
Connector. Getting that little sucker working had been a problem. Any
thoughts?
