I think this might be a Verity limitation, versus a FarCry issue. At my previous employer, we had a TON of PDF docs that needed to be indexed within our technical portal. Verity could not read them, so I had to index the Word docs the PDFs were generated from. I then had to replace .doc with .pdf when the search results came back. The Verity we get included in CF is a neutered version of the suite... it may be that they still don't include the ability to search PDFs. It must be doable as Google has the ability to index PDFs, but it may not be doable through Verity.
