You're likely better off just upgrading. The FU changes were a complete overhaul from the existing structure, as far as I know. In theory you could probably rip the changes out of 5.1 and apply to 4.x, but that's a long hard slog that I wouldn't want to undertake. Is there any reason to not upgrade from 4.x to 5.1? There's some nice enhancements to be gained by doing so (the new admin bar just rocks, and the FU handler changes to name just two).
