Yeah, I spent far too much time trying to make IONIC work... it's just not worth it. The lite version helicon works just as well as the full... IF (big stinky IF here) you are completely fine with the rewrite rule working for all websites, or just one website. That's the main limitation of using lite, you're limited to its configuration. I currently have two sites running on lite under FarCry 5.1 (dedicated servers) and it works great.
