On a related note, this was our thinking at the time we decided to move to dual 
license GPL/Commercial:

Those thoughts hold true today, and hopefully they give some insight into the 
decision and its potential ramifications for folks in the community.  I might 
add that many open source solutions like FarCry are GPL; for example, mySQL, 
Drupal, Mambo, Joomla, Linux, etc.

Not that many GPL communities offer the option of a Commercial license -- 
Daemon is the sole owner of the copyright on the underlying code base and is 
therefore able to make a commercial license available. What revenue there is 
from commercial license sales goes into the infrastructure, maintenance and 
development of the FarCry code base -- every little bit helps.
