I don't disagree with Gary but I would be careful about trying to use
the News type for advertisements. Just because you could doesn't mean
you should. Long term scalability could be a major problem. I'd suggest
that before you decide on an implementation you should layout your
requirements carefully. For example:

1. What are your tracking needs? Clickthru's, Conversions etc. 
2. Is the advertising keyword based and/or page based?

And it goes on and on...

Point is, News was created to manage and display News not Advertising.
If your needs are simple and your growth potential is small then using
the News type with some categorization might just do the trick. However,
if your needs are more specialized then I'd definitely consider
investing some upfront time and create a new type that can grow with
your needs.
